The mission of Lone Oak Farms and Gardens is to bring fresh, local Certified Naturally Grown* food to your family. Thinking beyond today for a brighter tomorrow and honoring God with good stewardship of the land with which He has blessed us!
They offer a variety of fresh vegetables and herbs including many specialty and Italian varieties. They try to focus on the health benefits derived from providing customers with fresh, wholesome “naturally grown” produce as well as featuring vegetables that are high in beneficial nutrients. They also offer Certified Naturally Grown vegetable transplants by special order each spring and raise beef cattle and hope to offer 100% grass-fed beef in the future. For updates on what the farm is offering each week, visit their Facebook page.
Lone Oak Farms and Gardens’ Certified Naturally Grown, pasture-raised, brown eggs are available year-round at Miklas’ Meat Market in Wheeling, WV in addition to every week at the market. They have a rotational grazing system that allows the hens access to grass, insects, grit, and fruit from their small orchard and plenty of sunshine. During the evening, the flock free-ranges over several acres of pasture. They are fed certified organic feed which means it contains no growth hormones, antibiotics or chemical inputs.
Susan and Bill are the second generation of the West family to operate the farm outside of Bellaire, Ohio that Robert West purchased from the Neff family in the early 1960’s. They began farming in 1975 while raising their three children. Their daughter, her husband and five of their six grandchildren also live on the farm.
To the West’s, being organic is a way of life. By taking care of the earth, wildlife, their health and the health and safety of their customers is a deeply rooted belief that is supported by their faith in the God who created all of it. The CNG program requires them to follow the standards set forth by the USDA for organic growers while allowing them to be part of an organization that believes in the small family farm and local food systems.
Tours of the farm are available and they welcome guests who would like to experience life on the farm.
Internship opportunities are also available. Please contact Susan for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org.
